Water lilies are aquatic plants with different shapes of rounded leaves and starry flowers, floating on water surface. They bloom from later spring through September. In the summer water lilies on placid water in a pond or pool create a sense of beauty and tranquility with their different colors decorating a beautiful scenery. Amazon Water Lily, or Victoria amazonica is famous for its enormous circular leaves. Its flowers are normally white and last only about 48 hours. An interesting fact about the flower is it opens as female and then transforms into a male flower before it closes up and descends under water, according to online Worldatlas.com.
