Sanderlings belong to the sandpiper family and are considered as medium size in the group. At beaches, these birds are tiny compared to other birds like willets, snowy egrets, sea gulls, and pelicans. Though small, they are probably the most active birds at the beaches constantly moving and foraging for food. Though short, their legs can move amazingly swiftly. Their plumage is mostly pale though brownish for breeding adults. Occasionally one can spot a darker colored plumage in sanderlings as shown in the photo. This juvenile sanderling stood out among the other pale sanderlings. This brown feather with big white scales at the back remind me of beautiful embroidery of peony flower pedals.
The camera and different types of lenses provide a link to connect all the dots among various things I have learned in my life: art and technology. My interests are sunset, wildlife, and flowers. Having lived in Florida for many years, I came to know so many beautiful birds, their colorful feathers, striking shapes, and numerous species. I am always captivated by the sight of them. Florida flowers are equally amazing and year round. And sunset on the Gulf Coast is spectacular. I want to capture the beauty nature presents us.
